Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil

This Chapter Has Closed.

The spirit of 700,000 Heures has always been to share time, nurture encounters and then step back, leaving communities free to choose their own path forward. Each journey becomes a chapter shaped by place, people and moment.

This chapter unfolded in Lençóis Maranhenses during the summer and autumn of 2019.

Our exceptional take on Brazil.

COMPLETE IMMERSION INTO BRAZIL

In the remote northern reaches of Brazil lies Lençóis Maranhenses, one of the world’s most dramatic and ethereal landscapes. This vast expanse of rolling sand dunes, interrupted only by shimmering freshwater lagoons, emerges for just a few months each year as the rainy season subsides and groundwater surfaces. The spectacle is fleeting, as the lagoons disappear as quickly as they appear. Nestled by a lake in the village of Santo Amaro, our house offered an exclusive base to explore this breathtaking scenery. Guests traversed the dunes by foot, car or boat, savoured the tranquil beauty of the lagoons, and indulged in watersports under the equatorial sun.
